May 2015 President's Report



  • Presided at May 05, 2015 Executive Committee meeting.

  • Presided at May 12, 2015 Board of Directors meeting.

  • Met with N.C. Department of Transportation officials to sign final papers for Encroachment Agreement so that our awnings project can move forward at the museum.

  • Wrote an article on the museum for next month’s issue of Lumberton Magazine.

  • Set deadline with Gillespie family for the removal of negatives and bridal portraits from the basement of the museum.This was at Donald Gillespie’s suggestion.

  • Faye Middleton and I are still assembling easels---a work in progress.One was damaged and the replacement parts have been ordered.

  • Placed an ad in the Lumbee Homecoming Booklet to try to reach the Native American community.Many thanks to Melissa Hardy for helping me to get this done.

  • Finally updated changes in the Museum Bylaws that were done in committee last fall.A few further changes need to be made.

  • Talked with Eric West who will be our attorney in the transfer of museum ownership to the Museum Board of Directors.Eric’s work will be Pro Bono.Thanks so much Eric!

  • Attended the Robeson County Arts Council workshop on writing grassroots grants from the North Carolina Arts Council.

  • Colleen Brown and I worked on securing sites for the 2015 Christmas Home Tour.We only need one more home.

  • Wrote to Ian Fetterolf regarding a plan for the new Business/Education Room. More on that later.
