April 2015 President's Report



  • Spoke at Kiwanis Club on behalf of the museum.

  • I would like to thank the following members who helped me stuff, seal, and stamp the 545 museum membership campaign envelopes for next year: Faye Middleton, Jackie Utz, Brenda Pope, Nancy Johnson, and Anne Monroe.I would also like to thank Marion Thompson for merging the old membership lists with the newer list and placing the address labels on all of the envelopes.

  • Met with Chuck Miller of the Department of Transportation regarding an encroachment agreement with the State of North Carolina to place awnings over the state’s right of way.

  • Delivered the City Façade Grant packet to City Hall for the new museum awnings.Our grant was approved!We’re now waiting on state approval---street and sidewalk in front of museum belongs to the state.

  • Spoke before County Commissioners for increased funding for 2016….requested $15,000.

  • Presided at April Museum Board meeting.

  • Had new membership letters and envelopes printed.

  • Picked up framed pictures for the museum from Joey Gold---thanks Joey!

  • Met with East Coast Awning Company for building measurements.Because of new codes, we will have to meet again.

  • Still waiting on Gillespie family regarding our request to do something with the negatives and portraits stored in the museum basement.

  • Served as docent four times.

  • Presided at April meeting of the Executive Council.

  • Assisted Melissa Hardy in the completion of the new museum brochure.Thanks Melissa!

  • Received donor’s check for the new art easels and placed order.They will arrive next week!

  • Sent member addresses to Dr. Jeff Frederick at UNCP so that members can receive the history department’s summer newsletter.

  • Worked with Greg Price on city and county budget request packets, plus ordering easels and paying museum bills.Thanks Greg for allowing me so much time to process museum business.

  • Helped Faye Middleton to rearrange our “Civil War to Civil Rights” exhibit once the borrowed easels were returned to UNCP.
