November 2014 President's Report

I hope that all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving and are looking forward to a beautiful Christmas Season. November was a very busy month for the museum. The highlights are listed below.

  • We met at the home of Blake Tyner for the distribution of the Christmas Home Tour tickets. Many thanks to Blake for the delicious refreshments.

  • Worked on one of the museum Christmas trees with Shep and Gail Oliver, Wendy Pridgen, and Anne Monroe. We had great fun. All six trees are now done and many, many thanks to those who participated.

  • Spoke at Historic Robeson dinner on behalf of the museum.

  • Met with Jimmy Harrington of the Boy Scouts of America who donated the Sea Scouts ship log and photo albums from the 1930s and 1940s. So interesting and contains so many Lumberton personalities.

  • Replaced the exterior museum sign that had “museum” misspelled.

  • Picked up the new museum tote bags at $6.45 each. Profit will be $3.55 per bag. Will begin sale of bags during Christmas Home Tour. Buy one!

  • Helped Nell Lyon and Wanda Aguirre decorate other areas of museum for Christmas. Many thanks to these two lovely ladies.

  • Filled out and returned documents to Baptist Church to reserve their fellowship hall for our fundraiser on January 24th. Please thank Kenneth Rust for his assistance if you see him.

  • Spoke with Bluegrass band about playing at the fundraiser for free. They agreed as long as we would feed them.

  • Worked with Blake Tyner, Colleen Brown, and Marion Thompson distributing home tour tickets and displaying posters to businesses.

  • Many thanks to Shep Oliver for replacing light bulbs at the museum.

  • Drove Nell Lyon, Ruth Ann McLellan, Anne Monroe, and Blake Tyner in the Lumberton Christmas Parade on behalf of the museum.

  • Talked with Wade Kirkland regarding museum repairs. New glass is in front window and repairs continue. Completion is expected by Dec. 13th.
